After a long and weary hunt for the two youngest hobbits, Legolas, Aragorn and Gimli finally meet them again outside Isengard. They ride to Saruman's tower Orthanc, where Legolas kills Gríma Wormtongue as while he's stabbing Saruman. In the extended edition of the movie, Legolas and Gimli has a drinking competition in Edoras. After many, many pints, Legolas finally notice a tingling sensation. At the same time the dwarf passes out. Later that night he's the one who first notices Sauron's presence in the palantír. He rides to Dunharrow with Gimli and Aragorn, before the three of them take the Paths of the Dead. After summoning the Dead Army, the three companions take control of the Corsair ships and sails to Minas Tirith to aid the people of Gondor and Rohan in the fight.
On the Pelennor Fields, Legolas single-handed kills an oliphaunt. Not long after the battle, the three companions and the remaining men from Gondor and Rohan are on their way to Mordor to distract Sauron from Frodo and Sam. Outside Mordor, Legolas proclaims Gimli as a friend for the first time, as they're waiting for the last battle. As the rest of the remaining fellowship, he comes to visit Frodo when he wakes up. We last see him at Aragorn's coronation, where he presents Arwen to the new king.
