Prehistory
In the first movie (The Fellowship of the Ring) we follow Frodo Baggins and his eight companions on their journey in Middle-Earth. We're introduced to the history of the Ring, the main characters in the Fellowship, and places such as The Shire, Bree, Rivendell, Moria and Lothlorien. At the end of the movie the Fellowship has been split, and continues on their separate and dangerous journeys. Gandalf has already fallen into darkness in Moria after a battle with a demon Balrog. After an intense fight with a group of vicious Uruk-Hais, Boromir is also killed. Before his death he saves the two hobbits Merry and Pippin from death, but not capture. By the time Aragorn, the dwarf Gimli and the elf Legolas arrives, the hobbits are on their way to Isengard in the middle of a group of Uruk-Hais. The trio decides to follow the group to save the little hobbits, and sets out on what will be a long and wearing race against time. Meanwhile, the two other hobbits, Frodo and Sam, takes the road through the hills of Emyn Muil on their way to Mordor.
The journeys continue in the second movie (The Two Towers). Sam and Frodo quickly realize they're being followed, and the creature Gollum is captured. He agrees to lead the way to Mordor, but not with good intentions. The Uruk-Hais are attacked by a group of riders from Rohan, and Merry and Pippin escape in the confusion. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli follow the tracks of the hobbits into the forest, where they meet Gandalf the White. They save King Théoden of Rohan from the evil spells of the wizard Saruman, and the people of Rohan is led to Helm's Deep for safety. Meanwhile, Merry and Pippin meet Treebeard, the oldest Ent. In the end they manage to persuade the Ents to go to war. 10.000 Uruk-Hais attack Helm's Deep in a massive battle. When all hope seems lost, Gandalf appears along with Éomer and the riders of Rohan, and the Uruk-Hais are defeated. Frodo, Sam and Gollum continues on their way to Mordor, after being captured and released by Faramir, the brother of Boromir.
The battle of Helm's Deep is over. The battle for Middle Earth is about to begin.
